I wanted to do a 3D scene using everyday objects as my inspiration...
The mate cup & bombilla were modeled in LightWave, then imported into Maya for scene set-up and shading. The gourd texture was painted in Painter, and the silver shader was created using procedurals and ramps. The cloth texture was a hi-res scan of some material I have from South America and applied to a sculpted nurbs surface. The scene was rendered in mental ray, and imported into After Effects where Trapcode's Starglow filter was applied to add a soft glow to the metal. The final render from AE was then brought into Photoshop for a DOF composite effect.
thanks, pal! i'll drink a sip of mate to you as well (just did!). actually, it was you who inspired this piece -- you mentioned you wanted to see my mate set. so, i decided to create a replica in 3D instead of taking a digital photo... really appreciate your comment, as well as all the fav's, too!
Fantastic! Great surfaces and lighting.
What is this yerba mate? Looks wonderfully dangerous Like the post-impressionists and their absinth or something hehehe - does it make you really creative and really insane at the same time?

You might even be one hell of a profesional, but if you don't SHOW it and PROVE it, how will everyone know? These facts are important not only when you are looking for a job, but in any situation when you wish to showcase your work. I decided to share a few guidelines that might help you give the best of yourself and help you be a better profesional.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More
